Gladwell was... let's just say 'not entirely true to the current state of the art' and leave it at that.

IQ measures abstract reasoning ability, not the ability to learn, though of course they are probably quite highly related most of the time.
-
Incorrect. The g factor (measured by IQ) captures common variance across all mental tests, whether abstract or concrete, verbal or spatial, reasoning-based or learning-based.

It’s pretty impressive when people can’t make a connection between IQ and the ability to learn - in term of scope, depth and speed - as well as the ability to retain knowledge and the ability to apply it. You want smart AND motivated, not either or.

Dont understand this comment, IO psychologists have recognized G as a strong predictor of job performance for decades - and some of the first applications of psychology in organizations were the development of intelligence tests for selection and placement circa WW1

I think the point is that learning and IQ (or whatever mental processing construct is popular) are highly related. Separating them is often difficult. Many knowledgable people are likely to have got that way through a propensity for learning.

You could almost say there is a market for it. Supply meets demand.

Yes there’s a big market for content which sounds good, is in fact absolutely useless (or bad advice), but hard to test without material skin in the game

Hire to ensure a minimum IQ across all critical functions of the organization, and ideally increasing up the management hierarchy. Even a single low-IQ person will drag a meeting and group down if only out of pity. In business meritocracy needs to be utterly brutal for optima.

Are high IQ individuals earning extra points of prestige by publicly downplaying the role of IQ in human accomplishment?
