I wrote a little book called 'The Mating Mind' to explore this idea... but argued that we're a species with mutual mate choice, not just female choice, so our mental ornaments are found in both sexes.

Females do have an ego too, just doesn’t tend to be as over inflated as males are. Perhaps this difference is an indication that although there may be some mutuality to the decision it is lopsided towards females. Do you think the decision making is 50/50?
