I thought it was decades of hearing the boomers telling us how having kids ruined their lives and feminism telling women that having children is oppression that created that effect.
High-functioning families use communication & self-control to avoid & resolve conflict. But drama requires conflict, & long-form TV family drama requires sustained conflict. Well said and when you grow up watching that it makes you fear having children because it makes it seem like it's impossibly hard, miserable and unrewarding when it could not be further from the truth.

Also tv glorifies disagreeable smart-alec kids who create drama, which real life kids imitate at home and among peers. Well behaved agreeable kids who aren’t trained in this have no hope in social status competition with those “schooled” by teams of clever tv writers.
