If you wanted to revert to our pre-2008 illusion that our media & institutions are functional, and that all those who disagree with them are necessarily fringe, you *have* to remove the “Like Button” as well as some other feedback mechanisms. Like polling. Also elections.https://twitter.com/Telegraph/status/1056860881869553664 …

what the like button do is to make people brainless automaton. It originates from facebook ~2005. It was designed, to make people addicted to it. you get a lil thrill when somebody
your stuff. it goads you to post more to get more.1 reply 0 retweets 4 likes -

the like button, also thwarts young people's written communication skill. It makes people avoid each other. Instead of actually saying thanks, i agree, or otherwise take certain commitment to acknowledge, the
button became a button for easy dismissal.3 replies 1 retweet 8 likes -

people can turn off retweet though. but cannot turn of like from showing stream, unless one pull menu "i don't like this tweet" which is more sinister, giving twitter personal profile.

I love the like button. I use it often to show I like things. Using it actually makes me more attentive when I scan Twitter feeds. But maybe I'm just a mindless automaton....
