The two best folk metal albums of all time both dropped in 2007: Moonsorrow's "Havitetty", and Primordial's "To the Nameless Dead".

I want to learn more about folk metal. It is a thing?

Folk metal is the best metal these days. My favorite such band is Ensiferum (favorite song Eternal Wait), but probably the most accessible folk metal song I can think of at the moment is Inis Mona by Eluveitie. Catchy from the start.https://youtu.be/iijKLHCQw5o

Interesting genre. I didn't know there was pagan environmentalist metal!

1967 was awesome. We got gifted with The Doors debut album, and the Beatles helped give us double tracking technology. That was massive. Also a fan of Disraeli Gears by Cream, Axis Bold as Love and Are You Experienced. Good year for guitar in general.
-
The Jimi Hendrix breakthrough on the things that can be done with an electric guitar -- a massive innovation for sure.

I’m 40, so obviously 90s biased, but 1992 was very solid. Arguably set the stage for the next two decades.
-
Tori Amos' first major album was 1992, and she proved a musical genius who inspired a generation of female singer-songwriters. So, also a pretty good year.
-
Sonic Youth- Dirty, Beastie Boys-Check Your Head, Dr Dre- The Chronic, Pavement-Slanted and Enchanted, Sugar- Copper Blue, Ice Cube-The Predator...
-
Alice In Chains, Dirt - Rage Against the Machine debut. The early 90s in general was a seminal period for music.
-
1994. Portishead-Dummy, Pearl Jam-Vitalogy, Live-Throwing Copper, Soundgarden-Superunk own, Massive Attack-Protection, Offspring-Smash, Notorious BIG - Ready to Die, NiN - Downward Spiral, Pavement - Crooked Rain 2x, Jeff Buckley - Grace,STP - Purple, GD - Dookie, Nick Cave

For me, 1978 was even better, The Police, Donna Summer (I feel love), Grease, The Who, Chic, Bee Gees, Sister Sledge, Kool & the Gang, Earth Wind & Fire...
-
1978 is a formidable contender.
-
I may be biased because I'm a sucker for disco :-)

I don’t know if year is the best measure. Maybe era. I graduated high school in 1975. So, Zeppelin, Elton John, Billy Joel, James Taylor, Sly and the Family Stone, War, Blood Sweat and Tears, the Doors, James Taylor, Areosmith, and then The Cars, Boston, EWF, Van Halen, Journey.
-
1975 was also a year for KC & The Sunshine Band, The Bee Gees, Captain & Tenille.

-
As a kid, I learned to ice-skate to all those folks. So much fun.

Thought about including him, but I don't think any Millennials have heard of him...
-
