I can see the logic in dropping ‘like’ for the long-term benefit of discussions. If ‘like’ is an approval signal from the crowd then it seems to gamify talking past each other to accumulate likes from one’s own audience.

And a short form medium will encourage more extreme pontificating to win the game.
