Imagine how exciting & inspiring it must be to be young & talented in China today, living through a massive civilizational renaissance, with national pride & hope for the future. We're failing young people in America if they can't feel the same.pic.twitter.com/XbrZVtuKF1

PS. I know that China has many problems. I didn't claim it's perfect. My point was about 1.3 billion people feeling a sense of national progress, pride, and hope.

Accessible to what percentage of the population in terms of cost?

More than it is to Americans. Have you seen their rail network? Did ask the question without a cheeky Google first? Tickets are also cheap.

He specifically pointed out high speed trains. I asked how affordable typical fare would be relative to avg income there. My expectation is that their hi-speed network is more for the political and business elite / middle class. Whereas India's 'steampunk' rails move avg joes.

Because someone said "just trains mate", taking his statement literally, instead of in terms of representation. China's trains are for everyone. You should see what happens during Golden Week in terms of travel. The Chinese people need and properly use their rail network.

No doubt. And there are many things to admire about the new hi-speed system. I bet the overall train system (not high speed) serves the avg joe better as a cost-effective travel option. Seems planes are cheaper for average traveler in U.S.

This wasn't a comparison between planes and trains though. You're building up and debating your own strawman. But anyway 2 points: 1. Figure out a way to fly 1.3 billion Chinese people domestically vs 350 million Americans. 2. Trains are more environmentally friendly.

My sister just moved her family back to the U.S. from Shanghai, largely because she was worried the pollution would permanently damage her kids’ lungs.

Well, it comes at a cost. For the trains the cost is lack of environmental studies, lack of property rights and lack of labor rights. If we had all those in the US we could build bullet trains cheaply too. Democracy and human rights don’t come cheap.

Not so exciting if you´re Christian or Muslim. They´ve got possibly 1,000,000 Muslims interned in reeducation camps, while they burn down churches, burn bibles, harass and imprison Christians for being Christians. Horrible tyranny in China. And nothing from our MSM..
