"people from relatively prosperous countries with strong institutions were less likely to spare a pedestrian who stepped into traffic illegally." - So those cultures who value law and order more show traits that value law and order more than lawless hellholes?

I'd suggest that a longer history of prosperity and consequent mass vehicle ownership has warped our moral compass, the other people we see outside our metal boxes are just video game characters, not flesh and blood like us on the inside.

I respect that opinion. I live in Mexico at the moment and the evidence suggests to me people simply value all lives less than in post-industrial nations. You can observe this by the way people walk and drive in any city here. It is insanely dangerous but nothing improves.

The brakes go out. The
@Waymo car has the choice to lethally take out 3 people (passengers or pedestrians). Will Alphabet Inc. skew algorithms based on intersectional ideology of the company when determining which people die? -
Terrifying thought. Although it might be logical under postmodern critical theory frameworks, I highly doubt such a decision would ever be programmed in by the engineers responsible for designing these systems.

Did you take the test? If fat people and pets are being considered we've already entered a nebulous realm of subjectivity. Trump voters are indeed less likely to live as long. If a car can assess homelessness it can assess political leanings.https://twitter.com/davidowen_sd/status/1055172892621565952 …

I see the appeal of crowd-sourcing the moral decisions our future machines make, but I can't help but expect that the decisions they make will maximize the profit (or, minimize the losses, in the case of disaster) of the manufacturer, regardless of what any humans want.

In that case they will kill the person least likely to prosecute
