I would definitely prefer secession to bloodshed. Secession might be the best thing possible for the survival of America as we know it today, if we are talking on a 100+ year time scale.

Yeah because it was a big contiguous landmass seceding from an island that was an ocean away.

Ukraine/Kazakhistan/Uzbekistan, etc... 1918: Austria, Hungary, Roumania, Yugo.. Czech, Slovakia

All irrelevant to the current situation!

...which of course you already know full well, having participated in this stupid discussion for many minutes on end now. You're too smart to do the "cycle back to old refuted arguments" thing for any purpose other than trolling. ;-)

They're not trolling. They just don't want to accept your points because it kills their fantasy of a secession in America.

Are you kidding? This is the most fun I've had on Twitter recently. I enjoy the thought experiment.

And at the time the US was a micro-nation with 2.5m population. Things grow and change. Sometimes things get too big. Small things are happier than big things. https://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/govbeat/wp/2013/11/08/which-of-the-11-american-nations-do-you-live-in/?noredirect=on&utm_term=.d426a421ac5c …pic.twitter.com/b72W9sGkzC

It’s a very interesting topic but my first thought is why would we secession. If people really couldn’t stand each other don’t we have democratic means to decentralize or reduce federal authority? So that different regions could pursue their own political styles.
