Maybe the Cold Civil War will feel enough like a war that we won't need to do any actual shooting.https://twitter.com/DailyMail/status/1054509228969418752 …

No. The current divide is urban vs. rural, and acculturation is fairly rapid. Thus, there will be no cleanly delineated regions that could secede, as in past eras.

I recently came across that term, Cold Civil War. I found it deeply disturbing largely because it seemed, maybe not a perfect metaphor, but to hold a lot of truth.
-
I would definitely prefer secession to bloodshed. Secession might be the best thing possible for the survival of America as we know it today, if we are talking on a 100+ year time scale.

Your "nope" is addressing the current practicality, whereas my tweet was talking about long-term sustainability. To answer your question anyway, I would say the current most likely secession candidate would be a progressive state in California, from ~Oakland on South.
-
Even if the political will for that could be mustered which it can't, the U.S. wouldn't let it go and would send troops. Over quick.
-
Washington elites might order troops to go. But would the troops, which are mostly working class guys from red states, be willing to kill Americans just to keep California from going its own way?
-
Of course they would, are you nuts
-
Well, at the risk of sounding even nutsier,
@KurtSchlichter might disagree with you on this, given his novels about the topic. - 1 more reply

Nope. It wouldn’t work. I live in a city in Mississippi. How would the rural areas secede from the cities? Geographically impossible.

The wrinkle, of course is, the sort is urban and burbs/rural with a North/South bias laid over it. Like a hundred or more Israel/Golan Heights

Only if we continue on the path of: talking is more important than listening.
