I don't see a totally different ethos. It's the same emphasis on family bonds, self-sacrifice, & national pride. Instead, I see China getting really good at adapting inspirational/propaganda methods & tropes from the West.https://twitter.com/CarlZha/status/1053134039744339969 …

Chinese People's Liberation Army recruitment video. What strikes me most is the totally different ethos than the ones present in US military recruitment video that we are all familiar with. pic.twitter.com/WKqYUOkyCJ

Have to disagree. Yes it’s an adaptation of West’s methods, but the ethos is different. It stresses the individual finds fulfillment through the military, not the military can fulfill the aspirations of the individual. 2. it’s entirely playing to masculinity virtue (no feminism).

well they have to. Their rich and old culture was smashed to bits and all that survived were the benevolent few who held the line unseen and survived. And they like many old grandfathers are probably saddened to see that many of their children no longer go outside to run and play

Last I saw American recruiting videos they were a lot more about "Maximize Your Awesome" than "protect your closest loved ones." Have they changed that narrative lately?

While it seems we (by most mainstream induction) are destroying family bonds, promoting self-indulgence and a national disgust on the left looking to destroy America’s foundation. Go figure.

It's called "Main Melody," and in recent history, you will find it in Chinese film dating to the 1950s. Or further back, to the story of Mulan, that dates from the Wudai era (5th century A.D.).
