Good point. I have no interest in this story because so many people think they have some ancestry that they do not. Would much rather see policy issues discussed then a circus of distractions.

A large component of identification and ascription is *forward* looking, shaping descendants for purposes of group formation. Ancestor talk is part of that. Trick is persuading others that you are one of 'them' or vice versa.
