In the last 30 years, had any major Hollywood movie featured a young conservative, centrist, or libertarian as a sympathetic protagonist? Curious to hear some examples. There must be a few?

Just because a dude is brave, effective, and masculine doesn't automatically mean he's conservative, right?

Absolutely. But it's an essential part of McClain's character that he's a curmudgeon, doubtful about Miranda rights, sceptical of even equity feminism, profoundly politically incorrect and in many other ways a dinosaur and a relic.
