I don't think this is the lens that pervades most of our culture. The vast majority of people worry about neither existential risks nor GCRs. #2 may be an important divide, but it's nowhere near 50/50; it's like 2/98, and the 98 doesn't really even think about the 2.

The secrets to sustainability all involve continuous advances in technology. Thos advances, in practice, always happen where there are accumulations of investment capital and usually a profit motive. Economics dictate tech and tech is prerequisite for sustainability.
