Maybe. Imagine a major political party that actually has a policy plank about the Singularity. It's impossible if you try, although it's obvs the single most important issue we face.

That’s true; any even vaguely Kurzweillian politician would be ridiculed by left and right alike. I really wonder if it won’t matter though. If government lags far enough behind, it will lack the capacity to enforce laws and collect taxes, which could be disastrous...

And to the extent that any effective government by definition enforces a monopoly on force/violence, what happens when cheap, lethal drones can be bought/rented with anonymous cryptocurrency and controlled remotely & untraceably via the dark web?
