The real 'culture war' isn't about Left vs. Right, or libertarians vs. authoritarians. It's about people who try to think past 2050 vs. people who can't think past 2020.

People concerned about existential risks vs. those just concerned about global catastrophic risks. People who worry about civilizational sustainability vs. those concerned about partisan 'issues'. People who aim to colonize Mars vs. those who aim to buy a beach house in Malibu.

The real culture war is about people who have different ideas about what the real culture war is about.

The Singularity will happen no later than 2045.

Maybe. Imagine a major political party that actually has a policy plank about the Singularity. It's impossible if you try, although it's obvs the single most important issue we face.

I have to call bullshit on this one - the no. people in the US who actually take time to read and think about life beyond 2050 is negligible and vast majority of them are unlikely to feel a major stake in soft gooey projections.

You think nobody thinks about how things will be for their kids and grand-kids one generation from now?

The real culture war is between people who conceive of history as an inevitable path towards a greater human society and people who think those people are insane.

2020 seems a bit far, most can’t think past 2016

Not unlike someone unable to get over imagined childhood trauma. I'm recommending this book to everyone these days. A jewish boy adopted by Christians avoids the holocast- resuce by woodsman prolly didn't happen, dressed up as a mini nazi is documented. https://www.amazon.com/Mascot-Unraveling-Mystery-Fathers-Boyhood/dp/0452289947 …
