Listened to this episode earlier and purchased Ellsburg's book after even though I've known about it since its release because of youare tweet but was initially put off because I had been focusing on the white puffy clouds of the enlightenment.

We do it overtly; military contractors spread their jobs across as many congressional districts as possible for this reason.

The first thing the military brass does when a new president is inaugurated, is walk down the Whitehouse hall with paintings of previous presidents and stop at JFK’s while stressing the importance of their funding to everyone’s safety

It’s politics & the keeping, or having of power, so it would be almost insane to think nothing like this has never happened in the US, or couldn’t happen. But the machinery of gov is different so its the game of self interests within a veneer of public need fueled by demagoguery.

You can’t keep a BJ in the White House secret so I doubt it. Much easier when the government controls the press.
