Are we comparing deeply religious folks "swearing to God" to atheists "swearing to God", or are we comparing deeply religions folks "swearing to God" to atheists swearing upon something very dear to them.
If I were asked to testify, I would put my hand on a copy of the United States Constitution, and upon that I would absolutely never tell a lie. If we go gather more data on the issue, we should make sure to compare apples to apples.
One would certainly need to control for whether the religious participants *really* believe the tenets of their religion.
