That _if_ your belief in eternal life is sincere, you may be less likely to double down on a falsehood that would result in everlasting torment. Such oaths are obvs not 100% reliable, but they're more meaningful to the oath-taker than atheists assume.
Of course, because religious ppl are not real ppl.
They are certainly more real than the stuff they decided to believe.
