Let's end the circus: amend the constitution such that each supreme court justice serves for 18 years; two are appointed in each presidential term. https://www.vox.com/polyarchy/2018/6/27/17511030/supreme-court-term-limits-retirement …https://twitter.com/FukuyamaFrancis/status/1044650556046766080 …

Yes, and that is exactly why the Founders created the system we have so that Supreme Court Justices would not be swayed by political winds of the moment.

If we're going to add an amendment, it should be to enshrine the filibuster so that the minority has power in the Senate. We should fix the way districts are drawn and the weight of allocation of Representatives to the House so that low density states stop being over represented

How is it meaningfully different from playing the which of these old people will die next game?
-
It's different because the president's appointee must get approved by a bipartisan legislative branch, so they're incentivized to pick someone who won't be too controversial. Remove that balance, and they might as well pick someone super extreme.

Shouldn’t the judicial branch be completely independent. They interpret and uphold the law, they do not write them.

Well, you'll have to fix the electoral college to fix the partisanship in the government. Partisanship all the way down.
