Pondering: a divide in opinion journalism between those who believe its primary role is to air disagreement/facilitate thinking among readers versus those who believe it is to bolster just social norms/gate-keep ideas that don't "deserve" a platform. Your thoughts appreciated.

In Australia the divide on this question seems more generational. In recent ‘platforming’ controversies - Lionel Shriver at a writers festival & Bannon on ABC tv - more established journalists were defending the appearances against the protests from generally younger media people
