Pondering: a divide in opinion journalism between those who believe its primary role is to air disagreement/facilitate thinking among readers versus those who believe it is to bolster just social norms/gate-keep ideas that don't "deserve" a platform. Your thoughts appreciated.
Most of the former are in alternative/social media. Most of the latter are in mainstream/traditional media. This is why mainstream media journalism deserves to die, and everyone outside journalism knows it.

In Australia the divide on this question seems more generational. In recent ‘platforming’ controversies - Lionel Shriver at a writers festival & Bannon on ABC tv - more established journalists were defending the appearances against the protests from generally younger media people
