These attitudes were likely exacerbated by aspects of BLM, but long preexisted BLM. Maybe it started with the civil rights movement.

Both effects are likely real. I lived in El Paso for years and most Latin Americans there were in favor of stronger border control. But there is a difference between wanting stronger border and the demonization many have used...

Did you read other polls on the police's general views on politics? The police have been hated by members of these communities for longer than BLM has existed, and they've been murdering them for longer also. You just like having something 'enemy' to blame the issues on.
