Earnest question: Why is it acceptable to discuss the biological influences on some psychological afflictions (e.g., alcoholism, schizophrenia), but not others (e.g., low IQ, low self-control)? If we want to design helpful interventions, don't we want to know the true predictors?

It's a bizarre narrative. We use genetic explanations to foster sympathy for certain cases, but detest genetic explanations for others. Thanks to our understanding of biology, we now no longer have gay conversion therapies. What misguided efforts!

Since nobody knows the cause of homosexuality, it is hard to see how our knowledge of biology has anything to do with this.
