I just don't pay for the upgrade. Feels annoying because they're trying to complete on bottom-line price and then worsening every other factor, though.
I'm not talking about upgrades. I'm talking about getting any basic economy class seat reserved before day of travel.

On many fares we offer seats at no charge and others for purchase. If traveling in Basic Economy, additional restrictions would apply.
