Controversy might have something to do with ppl overestimating their intelligence. Highest ends of spectrum probably don't include typical university students, but the absolute top achievers, a small slice of a very small group.

Suggest that it is likely that the issue arose because it was being published in a math journal, where it is an accepted (political) fact that any under rep in math is entirely discrimination.
