P.S. my model's main point was that most 'fitness functions' that map from a trait value to reproductive success will be more concave-upwards in males, so will favor more neurodevelopmental risk-seeking, yielding higher phenotypic variance in the trait.

In my bio class I teach greater male variability. I actually use it as a way to discuss reactions to certain findings (males at upper & lower ranges of IQ). Entirely non-controversial.
