Random thought about hitting people up for free labor/expertise. I get that it comes w/the territory of being a rabbi, but I know it comes up a lot for lawyers, techies, medical doctors, and sometimes psychologists. Interesting to consider when it's "acceptable" and who complies

When I was doing my MA in Talmud people knew I was a techie and I'd often get hit up for help. I really wanted to set up a structure where if I could solve your problem where I was it was free, but if I had to get up I'd have to charge. Never did though.

For some reason I find techies tend to be more receptive to requests for computer help. Not as much professional ethics at stake compared to doctors and lawyers. I hadn't considered academics, but there I suppose people may think academics always want to talk about their field.
