Perhaps not to a degree that we might desire, but I’m not ready to grant that these values aren’t by and large upheld. To be anecdotal, the departments I’ve been part of have been ideologically diverse places with plenty of back-and-forth. Maybe philosophy depts are an exception?

I also think it’s worth noting that viewpoint diversity might not be something we should see as intrinsically valuable, so long as reputable viewpoints are being represented. If upholding that means something like employing flat earthers/anti-vaxxers, academic merit suffers.
