Well, @Ben_C_J, I have zero interest in discussing this further with you, given your Manichean assumption that anyone who doesn't support your pet initiative must be evil. You weaponize fear of ostracism and then ask how anyone can possibly believe it's being weaponized.
It seemed like a 'no-brainer' to young cadres of the Cultural Revolution that their professors should be sent away to work the rice-fields until they profess the right views. And they were equally puzzled why the professors didn't 'voice their objections'. Think about it.
