I think the point is that Ohio, nowadays, is not an attractive place to live, no one aspires to move to Ohio. It's a combo of the "rust belt" and rural Trump voters. And the landscape is mediocre, it's overcast, long harsh winters, landlocked, etc. I'm from Ohio :)
I'm from Ohio too. That's why is was a striking end-game for a villain to pursue.
