Well it would have been known that Washington had surveyed "his" lands in southern Ohio so were the Brits victorious he could have rightly expected land in lieu of a "pension" award. Perhaps the irony of much of it belonging to Washington was not lost on him.

It's not the WORST reward. The current Duke of Ohio had a decent shot of standing for the Presidency in 2016. You won't see the Earl of Rhode Island trying that.
