Pet peeve: scientists who say with a yawning expression "oh, there's already a *lot* of studies about that" (e.g. something you want to work on) and then are unable to come up with even a single example. Anonymous grant reviewers sometimes do that, and then it's esp. annoying.
This happens a lot when social scientists say 'gender is socially constructed', and you ask for references....

Oh I'm sure with so many gender studies professors they will come up with lots of "studies". Sometimes in the court an argument is "weight of paper" meaning "so much paper there must be something in it", lazy judges buy it. In a couple of years gender studies will produce enough
