Kudos to @billmaher for this:
He understands that free speech is only meaningful if it includes free speech for the people you hate.
His audience doesn't get it.https://twitter.com/Bmac0507/status/1030863075056869383 …

I cannot walk into someone’s home and spew vile lies just because I feel like it. The home owner has a say in how I behave, including if I am even welcome to enter their home. There are rules of decorum limiting free speech everywhere in American society.

You can't just walk into someone's house because that's trespassing. Not a free speech issue, bro.

Social media platforms can have rules about conspiracy theories, offensive language, threats, etc. That’s not a free speech issue unless the rules are only applied to users with certain political viewpoints but not others.

It’s absurd to think it applies everywhere. Try telling your boss to f*#% themselves or threatening someone or yelling fire in a crowded theater. There will - and should be -consequences. The key is to have reasonable and fair limits.

No it doesn’t apply everywhere. It only protects you from government persecution. If it did I could walk into my work place, yell all kinds of sexist slurs at my female coworkers and not be reprimanded.
