PS If you think your Kindle libraries and highlights will still be available to your grandkids in 50 years, ask where your digital photos are from 10 years ago.

Never purge your library & throw away your books. Your kids & grandkids might want to read some of them. Every underline their little eyes see, every page they enjoy, will make them feel more connected to you, more grounded in the past, & more grateful for their family.

Couldn't agree more. My father died when I was a kid, and almost immediately I started reading his books. Thirty years or so later, I still find good books on his bookshelf to read, I can't tell you how much I cherish that ...

My mom had an enormous private library of classic SciFi, classic Noir, and classic mystery. A treasure trove. (Her aunt had Vienna's largest private research library. Now in Japan. She was 1st woman to teach at University of Vienna. Later dean of Economic & Cultural history.)

Ok, but I made an exception for everything from Paulo Coelho, and 'The Secret'. I would hate it if my grandkids thought I enjoyed those books.

We’ve 6 full bookcases in house. So grateful to my mom for keeping 1950s Hardy Boys for my kids (what’s a telegram? why is Fenton Hardy so terrible at solving crimes? why don’t Frank & Joe have iPhones?) My kids LOVE old school Hardy Boys and we’ll keep those 1/2

But we donate 50-100 books each year. Grateful for gifts we’ve received. I’m a big library fan (even professionally, I have access to Ontario College of Teachers library mail service!!) Love to pass along to public school libraries the books that my kids have enjoyed 2/2
