Be honest. When you go to a typical 'modern art museum', what % of the art-works seem worth looking at for at least 10 seconds?

Given how much of your twitter activity consists of broadsides critical of evo psych, I’m surprised at your dismissal of a field of endeavor requires some intellectual buy-in. There’s non-obvious stuff to understand.

I'm not dismissive of post-1900 art; just curious how many other people it leaves cold. I've put a fair amount of effort into history of modern/contemporary art.

'Modern' (i.e. starting around 1900) or 'contemporary' ?

I was thinking 'art anytime after 1900', but especially 'contemporary'

Who cares? "... the existence of conspicuous consumption one has rightful access to...creates a sense of well-being." - Tom Wolfe Art museums are conspicuously expensive looking, their gift shops are full of nice things to buy, and they attract distractingly beautiful women.

Last and only time I went to a modern art museum was in the company of a Brooklyn-based lunatic with facial piercings whose parents were Russian diplomats. She was good in bed, which is why I went.

We’ve got some haters. I love modern art museums. Swap the question of “could I make that (copy it)?” with “Is that interesting (weird)?” and y’all will have a better time. Weed helps too.

Cubism and Abstract art I can take or leave, on a case by case basis (I like Mondrian). But, Surrealism? That's another matter. I usually hang out in the Surrealism exhibits. I can stare at those pieces all day.

5-20%, but 10 seconds is a long time when there are that many pieces around. I usually pick one piece per room within 60 seconds and dwell on it for a minute or two.
