Finally a good political take from Stephen King. I've always found the amount of money poured into politics to be almost obscene. And A LOT of it just lines people's pockets. Not even used for actual campaigning.https://twitter.com/StephenKing/status/1027314436451835904 …

PS my point is, we need to estimate the total net externalities of any given spending on the rest of society, now and into the future, before we can claim the money was 'wasted'. And that's pretty hard to do.

So, without the integral role of attack ads in our political system, our economy could tank and the talented folks involved in that media won’t have work and multitudes of children may starve.. Or, maybe people just won’t be subjected to shitty tv ads which are disingenuous?

Maybe, but ... the money spent on cocaine doesn't just vanish into thin air. It circulates through the traffickers, dealers, club owners, corrupt officials, etc., and it feeds the mouths of their families and everyone they buy goods and services from in turn.

That's true, but I think his point was it could be spent on those in need. By the time that money gets to them (and it doesn't at all most of the time) it has gone through several filters of more affluent people getting a larger share first. But you're right, it doesn't vanish

Broken window. Don’t you spend most of your time complaining about those people?
