True, but practically speaking, can the government tell Facebook what can and can’t go on its website? And are we sure we want to insist these platforms are public space? I feel like that may have implications we haven’t fully thought through.
Facebook needs to be policed by ethical pressure from consumers, advertisers, and investors, not by gov't regulation.

Ethical pressure in what form? Network Effect keeps everyone there & given how lucrative the advertising is, no one’s going to cut themselves off (advertisers, investors). I think the government has to outlaw selling advertising that targets individuals using algorithms/AI.

No reason anyone should be doing it. Essentially changes advertising into mind control & creates incentive for companies to collect & hoard as much data on people as possible. Sucks people’s attention into cyberspace & away from other people & we’ve only begun to see the effects.
