I suspect that's true of almost all racism throughout history. It's driven mostly by status-seeking and virtue-signaling within the racist culture, with actual animus against outsiders a secondary influence.

That's an interesting thought. A lot of times I think there's a real desire to dispossess the "enemy" group, so it's motivated by a wealth grab (see: slavery). Other times I think it's just aversive ("they're not like us"). But, interesting thought...

I suspect that in most racist cultures, there's a small elite that materially benefits from the ideology, and a lot of hangers-on who internalize the racist norms for their own social, sexual, and career benefits. As Jeong may have done.
