I wish that the NY journalists would just stop writing for a couple of weeks every summer, drive across America, and talk with some ordinary folks. Maybe even listen. Go to some ranges, sing in some churches, get to know their fellow citizens. Might help.

I just meant if better people spent more time there those areas would be less crappy after a while
Or at least people in a position to help, like with better housing policies and better school choice policies, would have a better understanding of the challenges.
