Given mob outrage, one has to wonder: Are markets satisfactory arbiters of civility & values, or do we need a system of leadership with a long-term societal commitment? I don’t know the answer, but the current system in the short-term seems to be producing divisive outcomes.
We certainly need a system of leadership capable of addressing long-term major existential threats to humanity -- but that's evidence-based enough to distinguish the real ones (e.g. nuclear winter, AGI, bioweapons) versus the somewhat exaggerated ones (e.g. global warming).
