I think that 4 or 5 years ago, A) people didn't realize the importance and permanent of Twitter as much, and B) there was a general understanding in liberal culture that jokes insulting white people as a group were just that: jokes. I think things have changed.
So the statute of limitations for making viciously racist statements is about three years?

Sure. Didn't people get angry at you for having written some mean tweet about fat people? I think it's mean to make fun of fat people, but I vigorously oppose firing you over that sort of tweet! Isn't this the same?
