Dartmouth B-school will now favor sociopathic applicants who pretend to be nice and woke, rather than sociopathic applicants who work hard and speak their minds.https://www.nationalreview.com/2018/07/dartmouth-business-school-will-evaluate-applicants-based-on-niceness/amp/?__twitter_impression=true …

How did you read that and come to the conclusion that being "woke" is at all relevant?

What they call the 'awareness' criterion is a euphemism for woke values. As is their description of the 'niceness' criterion.

Do you think they'll favor applicants who are 'aware' of threats to traditional values or to constitutionally protected freedoms? It's a politically biased euphemism for Leftist values.

MBA programs are simply not that politically fraught - nothing like what other areas of the academy have become. Tuck's website spells out what is meant by "awareness" and it's not about politics, it's about being self-aware, giving/receiving feedback, anticipating biz trends etc

fwiw, I think subjective criteria are over-used in admissions across the board but as long as they're going to use subjective criteria at all, they might as well try to select for people who are cognizant of their surroundings -that's what business managers are paid to do.

I'd be genuinely interested to hear if you have a better word than "awareness". imho I don't think the Right should cede that word to the Left (because I agree in many contexts it _is_ used politically). Same for "nice". Lastly, the Tuck site is here:https://bit.ly/2v3Qh19

'Social skills' rather than 'awareness' might sound less ideological.

I'd grant it would sound less ideological but most of what they're trying to convey would be lost. Maybe "cognizance" could be used without sacrificing the nuance- but mostly I'd still maintain the importance of using words that should continue to have meaning w/o politics
