To understand the present, it's useful to have good mental models of our evolutionary and civilizational past, and of our likely near-term futures. Very few journalists have these mental models, so very few can explain current events with real insight.

In sum: good parents have to become better futurists; better futurism requires a heterodox understanding of evolution and history; the present is much less important than most people think.

Makes sense that the present is less important than the past or future, the past is billions of years old, and the future will bring another billions of years. The present is only a fraction of a second, or some years if you will.
