Had a conversation about this on FB with a friend who fits this bill, and who had other friends that fit this bill. If it were my restaurant I'd keep the plastic ones to give to these folks and just pay the fine. Everyone else can make it work with whatever.
So if you had a neurological disability you'd have to say that to every cashier and server you interacted with? To request the 'special' straw?
1.) No, in this hypothetical establishment I train my cashiers/servers to let customers know they are an option if needed so the customer doesn't have to ask. 2.) I suspect folks with disabilities will get used to carrying their own straws. Not saying this is a good thing.
