At least 62% of Americans are Christians, and Christianity deeply informs their sexuality & relationships. Yet psych folks often know _nothing_ about this huge part of their lives.
This book by @StormieOmartian sold over 8 million copies and has influenced millions of marriages. But I've never seen such books mentioned in psych research on sexuality & relationships, or in clinical training for marital therapists. Psychology has a duty to study people's beliefs even if they're factually wrong, and to take their belief systems into account when doing therapy.

Academic psychology seems generally quite bad at gold-mining large effects generated by shunned sources, like religion or new age-ism. There is enormous potential to do arbitrage on woo, but probably only if you're willing to be poo-poo-ed by colleagues.
