I haven't watched any of it, alternate histories need to be plausible counterfactuals (ditto The Man in the High Castle). If it took place in an Islamic state... that would have been an interesting twist, and more plausible, IMO (the only likely kind of theocratic state).

The thing that has always bugged me, even going back to having to read THT as an undergrad, is that societies under severe reproductive stress become deeply matriarchal to increase child survival. Several examples exist. I mean, why would they be violent to their fertile women?
