Further, if you consider the proliferation of chickens due solely and completely to the human desire to consume them, it could be argued that, even considering the conditions S.A.D. chickens are kept in is still a net positive genetically speaking.

This is one of the dumbest arguments I come across. If aliens were farming humans by the billions for food under terrible conditions I don't know anyone who would get much solace from the idea "well, at least my species is successful!". I must have missed that part in the Matrix.
