I have just completed an extensive thought experiment. The results are as clear as they are disturbing: All else being equal, when a man and woman disagree, the man will be right 50% of the time. Let that sink in.
But signal detection theory says you can't just pay attention to the probabilities; you also have to consider the costs of misses vs. false alarms ....
