It's utterly disheartening that @UChicago is buying into this anti-testing fad. It will reduce the value of all degrees it's ever awarded.

I’m curious: have you’ve read
@jerryzmuller’s Tyranny of Metrics? Do you really believe standardized tests are the best way to go about comparing student potential? -
I haven't read that, but I've read a lot of other material on IQ and standardized tests. Yes, they're the best ways we have so far; if you know of any objective tests of learning potential with higher reliability and validity, I'd love to hear about them.

Part of the opposition is based on the exorbitant amount of time spent teaching 2 the test. We could create 10K questions, rather than 200, if we want 2 measure the effectiveness of schools. We don't need to have all students getting the same test items. More diversity of ? types

Do you really feel that ACT and SAT scores are a better college entry indicator than AP, A-Level or IB Diploma results? All those programs are graded externally and based on a course of study.

My students where given Khan academy access this year to prepare for the SAT, though this article has contradictory statements about whether SAT prep courses work. Tests are just a measure, one among many, there's no "war," just a reevaluation of what measures to use.

I’d definitely want to know more about a person than standardised test scores though. Like how many clubs they were in, how passionate they are in their chosen ‘thing’, attendance, etc. I mean, you wouldn’t want to pass up a Max Fisher! So it can be 1 of many things to look at
