A lot of colleges are just semi-pro football teams that pretend to teach some things to their local fans.
All American colleges that take public money should publish annually the full statistics on SATs, ACTs, and GPAs of admitted and enrolled students, broken down by sex, race, athletic status, and legacy status. If they have nothing to hide, don't hide it. Enlighten us, please.

Really good IQ tests like the current Wechsler would be great, but they would also be easy to game by learning the correct responses. We'd ideally need an adaptive, generative, hard-to-fake IQ test.

“Full statistics” is not well defined, and enhancing the salience of eg race and poorly measured variables like GPA is almost certainly a terrible idea

GPA is really precisely measured, actually. It's the validated average of actually assigned grades in real classes.
